King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services disclosed Matthew Peterson resigned from his roles as executive vice president and president of behavioral health, effective June 19, according to a May 18 Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Mr. Peterson, who joined the company in 2019, is leaving to pursue “an external career opportunity that is not competitive to the company,” the filing said.

UHS said Marc Miller, CEO and president, will assume interim responsibilities for the behavioral healthcare division alongside senior vice presidents of the divisions while the company searches for a permanent replacement.

The company also terminated Mr. Peterson’s unvested stock options, restricted stock units and performance-based restricted stock units.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
