Rhode Island behavioral health department names chief medical officer

Katharine Woods, DO, has been named chief medical officer of the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals and Eleanor Slater Hospital in Cranston.

Previously, Dr. Woods served as chief medical officer of Arizona State Hospital in Phoenix and as assistant deputy director of the state’s health services department, according to an April 4 department news release shared with Becker’s. Prior to that, she served as director of hospital psychiatry and neurotherapeutics at Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Dr. Woods will step into the role April 10, taking over for Sue Ferranti, DO, who currently serves as interim chief medical officer.
