Wisconsin governor doles out $1M to reduce mental health disparities

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and the state Department of Health Services awarded $1 million in grants across 10 organizations to address mental health disparities across the state, according to a March 3 report from the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Each of the grantees will receive $100,000 to develop behavioral health programs to support the mental health needs of residents, especially to those living in rural communities and refugee populations.

The recipients were: 

  1. Arbor Place in Menomonie
  2. The Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin in Menasha
  3. Chrysalis in Madison
  4. SOAR Case Management Services in Madison
  5. The HIR Wellness Institute in Milwaukee
  6. Hmong American Friendship Association in Milwaukee
  7. Community Advocates in Milwaukee
  8. Meta House in Milwaukee
  9. The Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services
  10. The Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition

The announcement of these grants follows Mr. Evers declaring 2023 the “year of mental health” in his State of the State address Jan. 24. In the speech, he also announced the 2023-25 executive budget would include $500 million to expand behavioral health services in the state.
