A diversion center in Cleveland will close as a new crisis center comes online to replace it, Signal Cleveland reported July 15.

The diversion center, which opened in 2021, was initially intended to function as an alternative to jail for people experiencing a mental health crisis, according to the report. The center later expanded to screen anyone experiencing a crisis.

The diversion center was funded with millions in opioid settlement funds; $7 million from those funds will be used to renovate the new crisis center.
The crisis center, which will be operated by The Centers, a Cleveland-based integrated healthcare provider, is expected to open in 2026. The facility will cost $28 million, the report said.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
