Waterbury, Conn.-based Wellmore and Hartford, Conn.-based the Village for Families and Children plan to merge operations in the coming months.
The combined organization would employ nearly 1,000 staff members and serve 30,000 families annually across 100 municipalities in the state, according to a March 27 news release from the Village. Both nonprofit organizations offer mental and behavioral healthcare, including programs for school readiness, early childhood education, home-based counseling, substance use prevention and recovery, and crisis care.
The merger has received initial approval from both organizations’ boards, with final sign-off by the boards and stakeholders not expected until the end of June.
Upon completion, Wellmore CEO Gary Steck would become the Villages’ chief impact officer. The Village CEO Hector Glynn will remain president and CEO. No layoffs are planned as part of the merger, according to the release.
Wellmore serves more than 10,000 individuals across 43 towns and employs approximately 370 employees at 10 sites. The Village serves about 20,000 families across more than 80 towns.
