California to invest $1.18B in behavioral health: 10 largest projects

California is investing $1.18 billion across 66 behavioral health projects, with several organizations receiving awards of more than $30 million to expand treatment capacity. 

Here’s a breakdown of the 10 projects set to receive the most funding:

1. County of San Diego — behavioral health wellness campus

  • Award: $99,500,000.04
  • Facility type: crisis stabilization unit
  • Capacity: 20 beds
  • Projected completion: May 2031

2. St. Vincent Behavioral Health Campus — North Pavilion

  • Award: $76,837,631.67
  • Facility type: mental health rehabilitation center
  • Capacity: 119 beds
  • Completion: September 2027

3. Fred Brown Recovery Services — Serenity Recovery Campus

  • Award: $73,400,878.62
  • Facility type: adult residential substance use disorderUD treatment facility
  • Capacity: 106 beds
  • Completion: March 2030

4. UCSF Health Community Hospitals — Saint Francis Hospital expansion

  • Award: $70,893,613
  • Facility type: mental health rehabilitation center 
  • Capacity: 50 beds

5. St. Vincent Behavioral Health Campus — South Pavilion
