Cleveland Clinic has partnered with the MQ Foundation to establish the Mental Health Research Center of Excellence, an effort focused on prevention and early intervention in youth mental health conditions.

The MQ Foundation, a global nonprofit dedicated to mental illness research, is supporting the center with a $1 million grant alongside contributions from Cleveland Clinic, according to a Sept. 17 news release from the health system. The initiative aims to improve mental health outcomes for children, adolescents and young adults.

The team will launch a study examining hopelessness and its connection to mental health risks in individuals ages 14-24. Researchers will use advanced neuroimaging to identify biomarkers that may predict risk and apply the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality, an evidence-based intervention for at-risk youths, according to the release.

The effort will be led by Tatiana Falcone, MD, a pediatric and adolescent psychiatrist at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. She will oversee a cross-disciplinary team of clinical and nonclinical researchers.
