Lansing, Mich.-based UM Health-Sparrow will build a behavioral health hospital in Lansing after the University of Michigan board of regents approved the project Feb. 19.

The 64-bed, $83 million behavioral health hospital will be built on vacant UM Health-Sparrow-owned property behind the Lansing hospital, according to a Feb. 19 news release from the university. The facility will serve adult, geriatric and child and adolescent patients and will add 16 beds for child and adolescent patients.

Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Health is partnering with Towson, Md.-based Sheppard Pratt, a nonprofit provider of behavioral health and substance use services, to manage the hospital and behavioral health services.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
