California county breaks ground on $261M behavioral health campus

Government officials of San Joaquin County, Calif., and other executives have broken ground on the SJ BeWell Campus, an estimated $261 million behavioral health campus in French Camp, Calif., according to a Sept. 10 San Joaquin County news release. 

The four-building campus will span 18.6 acres near the San Joaquin General Hospital, according to the news release. It will feature two zones: a South Campus with a 76,000-square-foot community and outpatient services building, a 42-bed urgent care facility and two residential treatment buildings totaling 132 beds; and a North Campus with 252 beds of supportive transitional housing across 150,360 square feet. 

Site work for construction will begin in early November 2025, according to the news release. The first building is expected to open in July 2027, with the remaining three to follow in six-month intervals. Full campus completion is projected for 2029.
