Amwell has sold its psychiatric telehealth business to Avel eCare for $21 million.
The sale includes Amwell Psychiatric Care's technology, personnel and Asana, its psychiatric clinical network, according to a Jan. 9 news release.
Amwell provides telehealth services to more than 50 health plans, according to the release. The sale will allow the company to focus on its software offerings, Amwell CEO Ido Schoenberg, MD, said.
The company purchased its virtual psychiatric business in 2019. Amwell Psychiatric Care's client base includes "some of the largest and most influential health systems" in the country, according to Avel eCare. The acquisition will expand Avel eCare's footprint to more than 45 states.
