HR 7050 would increase the number of Medicare-funded graduate medical education slots for residency programs by 1,000 in the fields of addiction medicine, addiction psychiatry and pain medicine, the AMA reported March 1.
The bill would authorize the slots over the next five years, designating 500 of them to hospitals that already have residency programs in addiction medicine, addiction psychiatry and pain medicine in 2024. The other 500 will go toward hospitals that are planning to establish approved residency programs in the fields between 2025 and 2028.
