Texas Children’s in Houston has received a $5 million estate gift from philanthropist Barbara LeGrange, who passed away in March, to expand mental healthcare for children and adolescents across the region.

Ms. LeGrange planned the donation, which includes $1 million in immediate funding, prior to her death. It will support the Texas Children’s behavioral health initiative, according to an April 10 news release shared with Becker’s.

She dedicated the planned gift to her late husband, Ulyesse LeGrange, who passed away in 2023 after 74 years of marriage.

“Investing in behavioral health care at Texas Children’s represents a deeply meaningful way to make a positive impact,” Ms. LeGrange said before her passing, according to the release. “Every child deserves the opportunity to feel supported, understood and hopeful. Comprehensive care can help children achieve emotional well-being and brighter futures.”

Texas Children’s will use the funding to expand its integrated care model, which currently has behavioral health clinicians inside 28 Texas Children’s Pediatrics primary care clinics across the greater Houston and Austin areas. More clinics are expected to join the initiative, which includes intensive outpatient programs, mobile clinics and specialized behavioral health support at Texas Children’s emergency centers.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
