The Stanley Family Foundation has committed $280 million to the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute, bringing its total investment in the center to more than $1 billion.

The funding supports research into schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, with the goal of advancing new therapies, according to a March 12 news release from the institute. The Stanley Center, launched in 2007, focuses on using genetics to better understand psychiatric conditions and develop treatments.

The center includes more than 100 scientists across disciplines including genetics, computational biology and clinical psychiatry. It also supports data-sharing consortia and drug discovery initiatives.
