Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health has invested an additional $1 million into “A Home for All,” an initiative to address homelessness and housing instability in Mecklenburg County.
The investment builds on the system’s prior $21 million commitment to housing programs in Charlotte since 2019, including the $1 million investment and the donation of 14 acres of land for future affordable housing, according to a Feb. 11 system news release.
Separately, as part of The Pearl innovation district development, Charlotte-based Atrium Health, the system’s local care delivery brand, is contributing a 14-acre, $30 million parcel of land on North Tryon Street to be developed for affordable housing. Paperwork was filed for a residential complex at The Pearl that will reserve 5% of units as affordable housing.
“Good health doesn’t begin in a hospital room — it begins with the dignity and security of having a safe, stable place to call home,” Advocate Health CEO Eugene Woods, who co‑chaired the initiative when it launched in 2021, said in the news release.
Within two years of its founding, “A Home For All” directed more than $12 million in grants to support housing stability and homelessness prevention programs.
Other support from Advocate and Atrium includes the launch of a street psychiatry program. Advocate also offers a health and housing program serving chronically unhoused individuals experiencing medical and behavioral health needs.
