Best, worst states for mental health

New York, Hawaii and New Jersey are the top three states for overall mental health status and access to care, according to Mental Health America’s State of Mental Health America 2025 report, released in October.

To devise the ranking, the organization analyzed 17 measures, including prevalence of mental health conditions, access to insurance and treatment and mental health workforce ability.

Below are the 10 highest- and lowest-ranking states, per the report:
