Colorado loses 500 mental health jobs in Q1

Almost 500 mental health provider jobs have been eliminated in Colorado since the beginning of 2025, The Colorado Sun reported March 13. 

Two behavioral facilities have closed their doors for good in the state in the first months of 2025. West Springs Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., closed March 10. According to layoff notices filed with the state, 187 employees were laid off when the facility closed. 

Johnstown (Colo.) Heights Behavioral Health, a 92-bed hospital will close by the end of March. More than 150 jobs will be affected by the closure, according to layoff notices. 

A third facility, Pines Behavioral Health in Wheat Ridge, is laying off 132 workers, according to the Sun. The facility, owned by Intermountain Health, will shut down by the end of March. 

Intermountain is opening a joint venture hospital with Acadia Healthcare. Pines Behavioral Health employees will have the opportunity to apply for jobs at the new Acadia-operated facility, according to the outlet.
