Here are three things to know:

1. American Indian and Alaska Native communities face higher rates of substance use and mental health disorders than non-Native populations. However, there are insufficient funds for behavioral health services in these communities, according to an Oct. 16 Pew Charitable Trusts news release.

2. The toolkit aims to help Urban Indian Organizations address the needs for sustainable funding, optimizing Medicaid reimbursement and access diverse funding opportunities.

3. The toolkit also provides an overview of the behavioral health landscape in these communities and guidance on prevention, treatment and follow-up. It addresses workforce challenges and advocates for expanding telehealth services.
