Tampa, Fla.-based USF Health Morsani College of Medicine has launched a psychiatry residency program at Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, expanding training capacity as demand for mental healthcare services grows.
The program is based at Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, a freestanding behavioral health hospital affiliated with the academic medical center. The hospital opened in 2025 and has 96 inpatient beds, with plans to add 24 beds. It is the second psychiatry residency offered through USF Health and will begin this summer with an initial cohort of three residents, according to a March 18 news release from the system.
Residents will train across inpatient, outpatient, specialty consult and liaison settings, with a four-year residency structure that progresses from acute, team-based care to outpatient practice, leadership development and individualized career pathways.
