Leominster, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Health-Community Healthlink will lay off 78 employees, effective June 30, according to a WARN report.
The organization serves more than 22,000 patients across the Worcester County North and Central regions, according to its website. It is also a designated MassHealth Behavioral Health Community Partner, coordinating care across mental illness and substance use disorders.
“Over the last several years, workforce shortages, inconsistent referrals, and declining demand have resulted in substantial financial and operational strain and made it increasingly challenging to maintain CHL’s programs and services,” the organization said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
UMass Memorial Health and CHL are working with local partners and state agencies to identify alternative plans to sustain services currently provided by CHL, according to the statement.
“CHL’s priority is to ensure that our clients and all individuals seeking care across Central Massachusetts can receive high-quality behavioral health services,” the organization said. “We are also committed to supporting the caregivers impacted by these changes by helping them identify other open positions within the UMass Memorial Health system and collaborating with our community partners on any potential employment opportunities.”
At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
