New Albany-based Indiana University Southeast has earned accreditation for its Master of Arts in clinical mental health counseling program from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.

The accreditation places the university among institutions that meet national standards for counseling education and supports its role in training mental health professionals amid rising demand for services, according to an April 20 news release from the university.

Graduates of the program can pursue licensure as licensed mental health counselors in Indiana and Kentucky and meet accreditation requirements for licensure in Ohio, Florida and North Carolina. The designation also expands employment pathways, including roles with federal agencies.

The program includes a 100-hour practicum and an internship designed to prepare students for clinical roles across care settings. Students received training in areas such as human development, psychopathology, group and individual counseling, and professional ethics.

Indiana University Southeast also offers in-state tuition to students from ten counties in the Louisville, Ky., region through an agreement with the commonwealth of Kentucky.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
