Behavioral clinic opens in mental health desert near Washington, DC

Officials cut the ribbon on a mental health pavilion in Lanham, Md.-based Luminis Health Doctors Medical Center, NBC affiliate News4 reported June 21.

The clinic is one of only a few in Prince George's County, which borders Washington, D.C., in Maryland and is considered a mental health desert, the report said. It was funded with a $20 million grant that voters reallocated from a police training facility.

It will include therapy for children in crisis and counseling for parents, the report said. The clinic is expected to start taking patients in July, with second-floor inpatient beds becoming available later in 2022.
