OpenAI has launched an eight-member expert council on well-being and AI to guide its approach to responsible product development.
The council includes experts in psychology, psychiatry and human-computer interaction from institutions such as Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston-based Harvard Medical School, Atlanta-based Georgia Tech, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford University, Evanston, Ill.-based Northwestern University, U.K.-based University of Oxford and the California Endowment, according to an Oct. 14 news release.
Members will advise on how to define healthy interactions with AI across age groups and use cases, including complex or sensitive situations. The council has provided feedback on ChatGPT’s lateral control and notification language used when teens may be in distress.
OpenAI said the council’s input will inform product decisions, alongside insights from its Global Physician Network, policymakers and other stakeholders. The group convened in person for the first time earlier in October.
