Behavioral health providers in South Florida said Medicaid termination notices have disrupted services for patients and affected provider operations, CBS News Miami reported June 3.
Glory to God, which provides physical therapy, behavioral therapy and schooling for medically fragile children, said Miami-based Awana — the behavioral health company run through the organization — received a 30-day Medicaid termination notice in May.
Barbara Goodman, assistant administrator at Glory to God, said Awana received the notice without explanation and had never been audited or received a violation. The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration told CBS News Miami there has been “no reduction in funding for behavioral analysis services” and that ensuring Medicaid enrollees have access to medically necessary services remains a priority.
Aliana Guris, owner of RBT Rainbow Behavior Therapy, said her company received the same termination letter and ceased operations, leaving patients in limbo. Henry Marines, the attorney representing four agencies affected by the notices, said some patients have been denied services because technicians could not be transferred or added to another agency’s roster, according to the report.
At Glory to God, 37 behavioral therapists face uncertainty. About 11 therapists have continued working without pay, citing concern that children could lose access to needed services.
