Fond du Lac County will close its inpatient acute mental health center effective Jan. 1 after the County Board approved the move in a 15-9 vote, WLUK reported July 22.
The resolution approving the closure cited declining use, rising costs and the inability to provide appropriate staffing. A county executive told WLUK the facility was losing $1.4 million per year.
Fond du Lac County is one of five counties in the state with an inpatient mental health unit. Patients will instead receive care at private hospitals or a state facility, according to the report.
