New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue will expand its adult inpatient psychiatry capacity by 40 beds through a $25.6 million investment from the New York City Council.
The funding will support upgrades to Bellevue Hospital’s adult inpatient psychiatry units. The hospital currently operates at 98% occupancy, according to a Sept. 23 news release from the system.
Of the $25.6 million investment, $10.6 million is allocated for fiscal year 2027 and $15 million for fiscal year 2028.
The investment is separate from a $40 million expansion of Bellevue Hospital’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program. This program provides 24/7 psychiatric emergency services and is expected to increase capacity from approximately 11,000 to 13,500 patients.
