Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City secured a $17.25 million grant from the Aligning Research to Understand Autism initiative to advance research on profound autism, a condition affecting more than one quarter of people on the autism spectrum.
The funding will support the institutions’ participation in the ARIA Impact Network, an international group of research and clinical sites focused on preparing for autism clinical trials and advancing therapeutic development, according to a June 30 news release from the medical center. The collaboration also includes investigators from the New York State Psychiatric Institute in New York City.
During the next five years, the research team will take part in the ARIA Impact-Ready study, which is designed to track how autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions evolve over time while identifying clinical endpoints and outcome measures that could inform future treatment development.
