Lodi Wellness Center in California will close June 30 as funding changes tied to a law that reduce support for local behavioral health services take effect, the Lodi News reported March 25.
The center is one of three in San Joaquin County that has been operating as a collaboration between San Joaquin Behavioral Health Services and Peer Recovery Services, a peer-run organization that provides evidence-based support services. The number dropped to two after the Manteca location closed in December, and once Lodi closes, only a Stockton facility will remain.
Services will continue in Stockton, and the organization said it will support members during the transition and help connect them to ongoing care, according to Lodi News.
Proposition 1, passed in 2024, reallocates funding generated from a 1% income tax on millionaires from intervention services to housing — a shift that impacted funding for the center and led to its closure.
The site offered 20 weekly support groups and served 50 to 75 individuals in the most recent fiscal year. It provides peer-run support, support groups and classes for individuals experiencing mental health challenges and substance abuse.
According to San Joaquin County officials, the Lodi center may reopen in the future, while the Manteca center while likely stay closed.
At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place October 20–22 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
