The Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health at the University of Oregon will receive $125 million from Ballmer Group to expand its child behavioral health undergraduate training model nationwide.

The funding will support an initiative that aims to launch 18 programs over the next 10 years and build a bachelor’s degree-level behavioral health profession focused on early identification and prevention of youth mental health concerns.

The grant will establish the Catalyst Center for Youth Behavioral Health within the Ballmer Institute. Executive Director Katie McLaughlin, PhD, will lead the center, which will launch Sept. 1.

In the first expansion phase, the center is identifying three partner universities. Each will receive a $30 million grant to develop and launch a child behavioral health training program based on the University of Oregon model.

Future investments could support as many as 15 additional partner universities, creating a network of up to 18 institutions.
