The Trump administration is investing $144 million in Alabama’s rural healthcare system.
The investment will support 138 grants to expand access to care, modernize healthcare technology and infrastructure, and strengthen the rural healthcare workforce, according to an Aug. 24 news release from CMS.
The funding will support technology and cybersecurity upgrades, telehealth and mobile care services, emergency and maternal care, and access to mental health and substance use care. It will also support workforce training, scholarships, apprenticeships and recruitment efforts.
The investment is part of the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program. Alabama is receiving the funding for fiscal year 2026.
