HHS launches maternal mental health hotline

The Department of Health and Human Services is launching a confidential, toll-free hotline for new and expecting mothers, the department said May 6 in an email shared with Becker's.

The 24/7 hotline is backed by an initial $3 million investment, the department said. The upcoming federal budget would more than double that amount.

The hotline will support both English and Spanish-speaking mothers, the department said.

"This new maternal mental health hotline will not only advance our priorities of tackling the nation's mental health crisis but also support our efforts to ensure healthy pregnancies and support new parents," HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in a statement.
