Massachusetts is the best state for mental health in the U.S., according to Mental Health America's annual "State of Mental Health in America" report.
The mental health advocacy group published its annual ranking of states on July 29. Mental Health America ranks states and Washington, D.C., based on 15 factors, including the number of adults with any mental illness, adults with substance use disorder, youth with at least one depressive episode in the past year and the proportion of adults with mental illness who are uninsured.
States ranked 1-13 have a lower prevalence of mental illness and easier access to mental healthcare, according to Mental Health America.
The report uses data from 2022. The rankings from one year are not comparable to previous years, as the methodology has been updated from the previous year, according to Mental Health America.
