The deal initially fell through after owners of the facility and the county reached a stalemate on limitations regarding length of patient stay. The two parties have since agreed to a 72 hour stay limitation.

The new facility will include 32 beds and will undergo renovation that is expected to take two years, but it plans to offer limited services sooner, according to the publication. It will offer treatment assessment, medical withdrawal treatment detox, residential inpatient treatment, recovery housing, job training assistance and youth services once fully open.

The project will receive $9 million in state grants and $5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds. County residents will also see a 0.1 percent sales tax increase to support the center.

Additionally, a former Welch’s juice plant nearby the new facility will become a behavioral health intake center to serve as a drop off point for law enforcement, detox patients and those in mental health crisis.
