Washington state has purchased the recently closed Cascade Behavioral Health Hospital in Tukwila for almost $30 million, The Seattle Times reported Aug. 7.

The 137-bed psychiatric facility was owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare and closed at the end of July following several concerns over staff-to-patient ratios and safety, including a three-month strike in 2021.

The state is expected to take possession of the facility Aug. 15 and will serve 20 “civil conversion” patients with criminal charges from Western State Hospital in Lakewood, the report said.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
