Washington behavioral health hospital undergoes state inspection following worker complaints

Tacoma, Wash.-based Wellfound Behavioral Health Hospital is in the midst of a state inspection following complaints filed by a union representing its workers, the News Tribune reported Feb. 22.

Workers filed a complaint for an investigation from the state's Labor and Industries department due to an increase in workplace violence and an outbreak of lice.

"[Employees] report that they went from no violent incidents in January 2022 to seven in February 2022, increasing to dozens each month for the remainder of the year," Kenia Escobar, media representative for Service Employees International Union Healthcare NW1199, told the publication.

The complaint states that the facility is improperly staffed and does not offer adequate workplace violence training, according to the publication.

"Wellfound understands and follows all regulatory and legal requirements," Wellfound said in a statement shared with the publication. "We value feedback and take seriously the opportunity to improve. The items listed in the complaint are allegations. L&I's review began [Feb. 10] and we will await the completion of their process."
