The 20-bed unit will focus on substance abuse and mental health issues. Funding for the $9.7 million project was approved by the city council Jan. 9 and included $1.5 million from the city and $3 million from the Opioid Abatement Authority Cooperative.

The new unit will increase the hospital’s capacity to 330 beds, with the addition of 20 private patient rooms as well as nursing, staff and patient support areas. The project is estimated to wrap by November 2025.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
