Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is partnering with the University of South Florida in Tampa to establish the Senator Darryl E. Rouson Center for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Research at the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute, part of USF’s College of Behavioral and Community Sciences.

The institute will conduct research on the relationship between substance abuse and mental health issues, with the aim of improving treatment outcomes and reducing the societal impacts of both conditions, according to a June 25 university news release.

The center will be built using part of the $5 million worth of recurring funds USF was awarded during the 2024 legislative session.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
