Five details:

1. OSF said the hospital will expand access to needed mental healthcare for central Illinois residents because the facility will offer a full continuum of behavioral health services regardless of the patients’ ability to pay. The hospital will provide treatment for patients with acute mental health symptoms.

2. The new hospital will be open 24/7 and include a crisis center with free assessments and specialized programs with evidence-based care in addition to an intensive outpatient program.

3. OSF reported around 2,000 people in the 13-county area the hospital will serve are currently traveling outside of the area for care because there aren’t enough inpatient beds. A community health needs assessment also showed the demand for behavioral health services has increased.

4. US HealthVest has more than 400 licensed beds in the Chicago area, and its new partnership will expand the company’s Illinois footprint. Nationally, the company has 1,200 behavioral health beds, 2,500-plus employees and 30,000 patients treated annually.

5. The hospital is expected to open in late 2024 or early 2025.
