UConn School of Social Work adds infant, parent mental health specialists

The University of Connecticut School of Social Work has added a new team of specialists that are focused on the behavioral health of parents, infants and young children.

The Parent, Infant, and Early Childhood team will support those who interact directly with infants and young children, according to an Oct. 27 news release. These adults include parents, caregivers, relatives, pediatricians, social workers, childcare workers and early childhood educators.

The new team will be part of the Innovations Institute at the University of Connecticut, which currently works in partnership with the local, state and federal governments, provider organizations, and hospitals across over 40 states.

The team will support the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood as it evaluates early learning access and quality in the state. They will also work with other states to design and implement programs and services to support the social and emotional needs of young children, using evidence-based practices.
