U of Alabama designates $3.7M to rural youth mental health

The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa is designating $3.7 million in federal funding to expand behavioral health services for rural Alabama youth in Pickens County and the surrounding area, Yellowhammer News reported Oct. 10.

The Health, Opportunity, Passion, Equity project is focusing on evidence-based, strength-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and substance use treatment with the goal of supporting more than 5,000 rural youths and their families.

HOPE has partnered with the University of Alabama’s Center for Substance Use Research and Related Conditions in the Capstone College of Nursing and will also be led by the College of Human Environmental Sciences.
