Top expenses, opportunities and more: 2022's behavioral health industry outlook report

A survey of mental healthcare professionals gathered the state of the industry, with questions on mental healthcare challenges, opportunities and more, according to results published by Behavioral Health Business in August.

Behavioral Health Business polled 84 mental health professionals from Nov. 14, 2021 to Jan. 17, 2022.

Here are highlights of the findings:

  • 68 percent of respondents cited staffing as the biggest issue facing the mental health industry aside from pandemic-related issues
  • 95 percent of respondents predict that the use of telehealth will continue to rise or at least stay at the current level going forward
  • 78 percent of respondents expect staffing changes to be the biggest industry expense

The respondents said the greatest upcoming opportunities for the industry are expanding services, incorporating value-based care, improving telehealth care methods and treating underserved communities.
