Using data compiled by World Population Review, these are the countries with the highest rates of depression among their population, along with the approximate number of people with the condition.

In the instance of a tie, the country with the higher total depressed individuals was ranked higher.

  1. Ukraine: 6.3 percent, approximately 2.7 million people
  2. United States: 5.9 percent, approximately 19.7 million people
  3. Australia: 5.9 percent, approximately 1.5 million people 
  4. Estonia: 5.9 percent, approximately 78,000 people
  5. Brazil: 5.8 percent, approximately 12.5 million people
  6. Greece: 5.7 percent, approximately 588,000 people 
  7. Portugal: 5.7 percent, approximately 578,000 people 
  8. Belarus: 5.6 percent, approximately 528,000 people
  9. Finland: 5.6 percent, approximately 311,000 people
  10. Lithuania: 5.6 percent, approximately 149,000 people
