Text-based mental health support line earns accreditation

Nonprofit organization Crisis Text Line is the first online-only mental health support line to be accredited by the American Association of Suicidology.

Founded in 2013, Crisis Text Line is a free service to individuals who are in crisis and is available 24/7, according to an email shared with Becker's on Sept. 19.

"It is wonderful to see organizations making the most of technological tools to deliver quality services that truly meet people where they are and in the manner in which they are most comfortable communicating," Anthony Wood, AAS’s interim executive director and COO, said in the email.

The organization earned the accreditation from the American Association of Suicidology after being evaluated for various aspects of care. The distinction is given when a group's services meet nationally recognized standards.
