Texas university receives $10M to bolster behavioral health workforce

Odessa-based University of Texas Permian Basin has received $10 million in grants from the Permian Strategic Partnership and the Scharbauer Foundation to support the mental and behavioral health workforce.

The money will allow UTPB to cover tuition and mandatory fees for graduate students who live within the 22 counties in Texas and New Mexico that make up the Permian Basin, according to a July 19 news release from the university. These students will pursue graduate degrees in clinical psychology, social work, counseling or school counseling.

The first group of recipients will benefit from the grants beginning in the fall, with awards being renewable for up to three years.
