The Texas Health and Human Services Commission broke ground Sept. 24 on a $452 million inpatient psychiatric hospital in Wichita Falls.
The new facility, set to be complete in the second half of 2027, will replace North Texas State Hospital. It will feature 200 beds, with separate living areas for adult and adolescent patients, and is designed to balance patient privacy with common areas to foster social interaction.
The investment is part of a $1.5 billion initiative Gov. Greg Abbott announced in June to expand access to inpatient mental health care across the state.
