Frisco, Texas-based Magellan Health has introduced a collaborative care model for pediatric primary care providers.

The model, which integrates behavioral health support into primary care, has been validated in more than 90 randomized controlled trials, according to a Sept. 3 news release. It works to reduce barriers to access, improve provider satisfaction and deliver measurable outcomes for patients.

The company monitored outcomes at a pediatric clinic that implemented the collaborative care model for 12 months. During the study period, 229 patients aged 8 and older were referred to the program. Of those, 84% enrolled and 56% either stayed engaged or graduated from the program. Among graduates, PHQ-A — a patient health questionnaire for adolescents — scores dropped by 40%.
