States with the fewest in-network therapists

Kansas is the state with the lowest percentage of private practice therapists who are in-network with at least one insurance panel, according to a study by behavioral health site Zencare.

Vermont comes in second, and there are only five states in the nation where 50 percent or more therapists are in-network with at least one insurance panel. Twenty-nine states have two-thirds or more of their therapists out-of-network for all patients.

The 10 states with the lowest percentage of private practice therapists in-network with at least one insurance panel:

Note: Due to unavailability of data, the study omitted Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

1. Kansas - 8.33 percent

2. Vermont - 12.5 percent

6. Missouri - 15.38 percent

7. Oklahoma - 16 percent

8. Utah - 17.14 percent

9. Nebraska - 17.39 percent
