It has been more than 40 years since northern Orange County (Calif.) has had a dedicated behavioral health hospital, but that changed Aug. 2 when Anaheim Community Hospital opened, according to The Orange County Register.

The previously shuttered hospital has 98 beds and will operate as a general acute medical-surgical care facility with inpatient and outpatient systems. It features procedure suites, lab and imaging services and specialized care options, such as electroconvulsive therapy for patients with severe post-traumatic stress disorder,

Anaheim Community Hospital will also provide care for patients with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, as well as those who require secondary detoxes for substance abuse.

The 24-hour hospital aims to decrease wait times for assessments that are currently challenging traditional hospitals, according to the report.
