Sacramento, Calif.-based WellSpace Health, a provider of medical, dental, behavioral health and supportive services, and Sacramento County have broken ground on a new community wellness campus in South Sacramento.

The 13-acre campus will include a 24,700-square-foot, 32-bed mental health rehabilitation center to provide 24-hour residential treatment for adults requiring a higher level of care, according to an April 7 news release from the county. The facility will house residential living spaces, treatment and group rooms as well as outdoor areas.

Construction is being funded by $23.57 million from the state’s Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program grant, along with a $1.98 million county match.

Once complete, WellSpace Health will operate the facility, while Sacramento County will maintain priority access to available beds, according to the release. The partnership aims to improve care coordination and reduce barriers to services.

The facility is expected to open in 2027.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
