Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset Behavioral Health Services in Somerville, N.J., has been designated Somerset County’s provider of psychiatric emergency screening services. The hospital is part of West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas Health.

The designation enables the hospital to provide 24/7 emergency psychiatric evaluation and crisis intervention services for adults and children in its emergency departments, according to an April 9 news release from the system. Services include assessment, stabilization and referrals for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use crises.

The program also partners with peer recovery specialists to support access to substance use treatment and offers mobile crisis outreach services.

The hospital also opened a Hope Hub, offering a non-emergency, walk-in space for individuals and families to receive support during behavioral health crises.

The designation and hub expands RWJBarnabas Health’s behavioral health footprint, which serves over half a million individuals each year and includes partnerships with more than 300 schools and services across multiple care settings, according to the release.

RWJUH Somerset is a 343-bed regional hospital and designated teaching facility with a family medicine residency program of 21 residents.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
