According to the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance, postpartum depression affects 20 percent of parents nationally – but nearly 40 percent of black parents. This is attributed to factors such as systemic racism, adverse childhood experiences and lack of representation in the medical system.

The Moving Beyond Depression program uses 15 cognitive behavioral therapy sessions to treat Black parents with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

The program is a free service available prenatally through the baby’s first 18 months.
